Fall and spring are two of the most popular times of the year for engagement photos. Spring blooms and fall leaves are gorgeous! Book your session early with your photographer so that you can take advantage of each season’s beauty.
The bride and groom can build rapport with their photographer during the engagement photo shoot which will be beneficial to everyone on the wedding day. Couples are more relaxed about photos when their wedding day arrives because they’ve already worked with the photographer at their engagement photo shoot and know what to expect.
Suggestions on What to Wear
Suggested number of outfits
Depending on the length of your engagement session, one (1) or two (2) outfits is recommended. If there is time for two (2) outfits, start the photo session wearing more formal outfits, then changing into more casual clothes.
Choose comfortable clothes
If you’re not comfortable, it will be noticeable in the photos. Also, wear comfortable shoes especially if your location will involve a lot of walking. A better approach might be to choose to wear cute flats or boots with a low heel rather than 4-inch stilettos. You can always choose to wear comfortable shoes until you reach your destination, then change into your less comfortable shoes for the photo shoot.
Choose clothing that complements your personality
Make sure your clothes look like something you would wear and that your outfit(s) fit your personality.
Coordinate your clothing with each other
Pair each other’s clothing so that they are the same level, i.e. formal or casual, and wear similar shades that complement each other.
Colors by Season:
For fall, these colors blend well together: rich oranges, reds and jewel tones, especially if you live in a region where the leaves change color.
For winter, consider metallic accents, such as silver, for a festive look. Dresses with a hint of shine will provide just enough sparkle without becoming distracting. Have your fiancé wear a jacket and a tie to flatter your outfit.
For spring, pastels and neutrals are classic and timeless. Monochrome outfits with one pastel color head-to-toe are a great choice. Some ideal colors are aqua, baby blue, and salmon pink. Mix up to three pastel colors in an outfit for a soft, yet vibrant look. Also, try wearing plenty of neutrals to offset the pastels. It will make the pastel pop!
For summer, an all-white ensemble for both you and your fiancé to wear is classic and perfect for the season. You can also choose the trendy bohemian style with its vivid colors and bold patters which complement the summer season quite well.
Choose clothes to complement your location
If you are taking photos in a field or the mountains, consider clothes with more natural colors. And, if you are taking photos in a downtown area, you might consider clothes with bold colors.
